Courtenay
This victorian extension roof was a special one.
We removed the existing 'man made' tile roof, uPVC fascias and failed timber frame. We then reconstructed the timber frame and installed a natural slate roof with a lead ridge application, timber fascia and bargeboards.
We were very fortunate to have such understanding customers whilst on this project, our colleague and best friend Simon Mitchell sadly passed away during completion. Our customers were kind enough in letting us get creative after having some time away, by adding the details that Si loved to the roof.
Simon always wanted to craft some decorative bargeboards, so these were created just for him. Myself and Simon both cast the finial that he hand polished. I had mentioned adding a slate pattern before he passed, he replied that the scalloped pattern was his favourite, so we cut in 6.
The Motif was first carved into oak, and with help from Beth (Simon’s partner), we decided on a sunrise over the sea. We then added his name and dates in the font of his all time favourite Oasis album ‘Definitely Maybe’.
It’s just a roof to most, but this was our last roof together, and we'll never forget it.
Simon was an integral part of Clemence Roofing and is greatly missed.
Simon was a kind, caring and fun loving party animal.
