This project involved the transformation of a dilapidated detached bungalow set in the heart of a charming Devon town. The existing concrete pantiles were removed and replaced with Marley Mendip double pantile concrete tiles, complete with an over-cloaked verge tile detail that provides a clean and robust edge finish.

The original flat roof and its timber construction were entirely replaced to accommodate a new EPDM roofing system, ensuring long-term performance and durability. To further enhance the building’s character, the gable façade was re-clad in natural slate, incorporating a beautifully ornate central diamond detail that adds both texture and visual interest.

The chimney stack had failed and required significant intervention. We completely rejuvenated it, giving the stack a new lease of life while remaining sympathetic to the character and style of the property. The result is a contemporary yet timeless roofscape, with the chimney fully clad in slate to tie in with the gable façade.

The stack was crowned with a Code 7 lead panel and finished with a bespoke welded lead pot, designed to house a stainless steel cowl. We installed a black painted steel rainwater system, providing a crisp, modern contrast that complements the roof and façades perfectly.

This project is a strong example of what can be achieved when thoughtful design, traditional materials and modern systems are brought together with care and attention to detail.
